I’ve been a sports medicine professional for over 30 years. I’ve seen it all. But I’ve learned that when it comes to training and diagnosis, the best way to really help athletes, and get them back into the game is to help them see what they are doing wrong, and why it’s causing injury.
The only time Ive seen an athlete on a nutritionist’s diet and then being told to go find a doctor to make sure they have the right diet, is when the athlete is actually getting into trouble.
I think this is a good idea. It would be nice if athletes were told how to fix their habits instead of having a dietician tell them. It seems like dieticians are generally the ones telling athletes to eat less and exercise more.
I have a friend who has been a professional football player for about 20 years. He is a great athlete, but on the nutrition side he is a disaster. Every game he plays he feels like he has to lose weight. He knows the importance of food and the correct amount of calories but he is the same weight as he was before the game. So he goes out and he eats all the same way. He thinks he is losing weight by not eating and not drinking.
I had a patient who was a really big sports fan. She ate a lot of sports bars and sports drinks and she didn’t sweat. She was always the same weight as before she started sports. She would eat a few sports bars and then go out and eat something substantial. She would eat a few sports drinks, then eat a few sports bars and then go out to eat.
I’ve said this before about the game, but I think this is so important. Nobody should be able to eat a lot of sports drinks without having a regular drink. And people don’t want to be the sole measure of fitness in the world, so they shouldn’t be able to drink more sports drinks than any other drink they’re allowed to drink.
This is a difficult one. I think we can all agree that sports drinks are good for you in moderation, but we can also say that they are horrible for you when ingested by other people. Sports drinks contain a lot of sugar, which is very quickly absorbed through the stomach. So the problem is that when you drink sports drinks, you quickly have to rehydrate, and you’re not taking in the full nutritional value of what you’re eating.
In the movie Mad Max, when the Road Warrior team is attacked by a bunch of angry Mad Max, they have to take some time out to rehydrate, as the acid from the beer they drank has ruined their stomachs. It takes almost as long as drinking the beer though. This is a key point for people who are worried about not having enough sports drinks.
